L2 Dependent Visa Details: The L2 visa allows the immediate family members (the spouse and children under 21 years) of L1 status holders to enter into the United States. The L2 visa holder can remain in the country for the duration of the principal L-1 holder's permitted duration of stay. The dependent can also travel in and out of the country (on short trips) as many times as he/she desires. The L-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows companies operating both in the United States and abroad to transfer certain classes of employee from its foreign operations to its U.S. operations for up to 7 years. L-1 visas are normally issued to the Managers or Executives, and Specialized Knowledge Staff. (For more information, see our L-1 Intra Company page) The L-2 visa holder is also allowed to change or “adjust status” in the US. The applicant needs to file Form I-485 to register Permanent Residence or Adjustment of Status, with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Also, the L-2 visa holders do not need to apply for Advance Parole as long as they retain their legal status.
